Keira Knightley in new Chanel film

The new Chanel short film Once upon a time starring Keira Knightley as Coco Chanel was released today Wednesday. The film is directed by Karl Lagerfeld himself obviously, and also features the actresses of Clotilde Hesme and Tallulah Harlech and the the models Lindsey Wixson, Stella Tennant and Saskia de Brauw,  Baptiste Giabiconi along with a lot of other familiar appearances.

As noted in the Youtube comment field, the acting and dialog seem a bit awkward, but it may be explicable by the fact that the actors and actresses were given their lines just minutes before the shoot. Or perhaps it was simply a well-aware choice by Karl Lagerfeld who apparently wanted the “natural effect”. Anyway, the costumes from earlier eras presented in the film are sufficient reason for watching it through.

The Stars (Are Out Tonight) music video

That David Bowie made it on TIME’s list of All-Time 100 Fashion Icons last year was speaking for itself, his androgynous look and care for aesthetics made him a hybrid of feminine and masculine and important person of fashion. Almost thirty years after his heyday, he enlisted the currently most androgynous people of film and fashion to star in the music video (or more of a fashion film) of his new track The Stars (Are Born Tonight) from his first album in a decade. Tilda Swinton plays the wife of Bowie, whose lives are destroyed by the couple played by Andrej Pejic and Saskia de Breuw. The function of Iselin Steiro who is embodying David Bowie himself is somewhat unclear. But the surreal visual expression however suggests a mood typical for David Lynch movies, meaning you don’t have to understand everything.

Inspiration: Graphics

In the February issues, the black and white patterns of stripes, checks and primarily dogtooth with descendance from the 60′s seem to appear more frequently than any other spring trend. Or it is because of its distinct look that make it noticeable.

The magazine interpreting the trend in the most creative and defintely consistent way is Vogue Japan with Aymeline Valade posing quirkily in front of an architectural building of which the columns make a great backdrop to the clothing. Harper’s Magazine Spain on the other hand went all the way and put stripes on the cover. With a more conservative touch to it however, they almost literally make a reference to the mod era especially with the blonde pixie cut and glam eye make up, modelled by Ginta Lapida and  shot by Txema Yeste.
